As of May 2023, when students are un-enrolled unenrolled (via EduRec) from official academic courses, they are now considered inactive enrolments.
Inactive enrolments cannot access the course.
The inactive tag with following their name is how they are meant to appearCanvas displays it, and they the students cannot be removed from the course. This is helpful as you may need to access data regarding the inactive students' participation and gradesnor hidden from People.

Students and instructors moved from one section to another are also listed as inactive in the sections they have been removed from.
However, unlike removing users entirely from a course, there is no inactive tag visible to instructors for those who have changed sections. Instead, instructors see all the sections a user is and was part of.
Expand title How to view which section a student belongs to? Click the student's name > Click the student's name again on the sidebar that appears on the right of your screen >Scroll to bottom of the page, and take note of the active Section. Inactive section(s) will have a 'Restore' label in it.
Inactive section(s) will not be visible to the student thus, it is safe to ignore the previous section(s) listed there as per described in point 2b above. You do not need to do anything further.
