This page is for Cohorts AY2019/2020 and AY2020/2021 only. 

This page provides information on module registration for Level 2000 common modules in the Engineering undergraduate curriculum:

EE2211 Introduction to Machine Learning

How to register for the module

LECTURE will be pre-allocated to students who are scheduled to read it (refer to your Department's recommended schedule). If you are scheduled to read it but have not been pre-allocated, please register for it in ModReg Select Modules.

Rounds 0 & 1 are reserved for students who are scheduled to read it this semester (refer to your Department's recommended schedule).

Rounds 2 & 3 are open to all Engineering students (except ESP and CEG) from Cohorts AY2019/20 and AY2020/21, and all E-Scholar students from Cohorts AY2021/22. 

For other students interested in the module, please submit an appeal in ModReg (Appeal Type: "Unable to Secure Module") after Round 3 ends, and we will consider your request subject to available vacancies. 


TUTORIALS will be open for balloting in ModReg. You will need to select and rank your timeslots in Select Tutorials/Labs, and it will be allocated to you based on the priority scoring.  

Pre-requisites and Preclusions

EE2211 has the following pre-requisites: CS1010E and (MA1511 or MA1505) and (MA1508E or MA1513 or CE2407). Advisory: MSE students will self-study calculus while EVE students will self-study linear algebra.

How to register for the module

Pre-requisites and Preclusions

IE2141 is precluded from Residential College 4 Junior Seminars (UTC1702x). Effective from the AY2019/20 cohort onwards, students who have read a RC4 Junior Seminar (UTC1702x) will be exempted from the IE2141 graduation requirement. You will be required to take an additional 4 MCs of UEM in place of IE2141 to meet the minimum number of MCs required for graduation.

Other Important Information

The tutorials and labs are "bundled" and follow the same timetable. For example, if B01 is on Monday 12-2pm (Odd weeks), T01 will be on Monday 12-2pm (Even weeks). Hence, if you would like to select the B01 lab group, please ensure that you keep the same timing free in the alternate weeks, so that the corresponding T01 will be allocated to you.

ES2531 Critical Thinking & Writing

ES2531 is the module code applicable for students from Cohort 2019/20 onwards. Students are encouraged to read this module in accordance with the recommended semester schedule, as it is needed as a pre-requisite for EG2401A Engineering Professionalism. 

How to register for the module

Please register for the module in ModReg Select Modules.

Round 0 is reserved for students who are scheduled to read it this semester (refer to your Department's recommended schedule).

Round 1 & 2 are reserved for students who are scheduled to read it this semester as well as students from Cohort AY2019/20. 

Round 3 is open to all Engineering students from Cohorts AY2019/20 and AY2020/21. 

Pre-requisites and Preclusions

1. To read this module, you must have been either exempted from the Qualifying English Test (QET) or obtained Band 3 in the QET. You may check if you are exempted HERE.

2. Students who are required to take ES1000 Foundation Academic English and/or ES1103 English for Academic Purposes after taking the QET must pass the modules before you are allowed to read this module.

Other Important Information

1. Computer Engineering students should read CS2101 to fulfil the writing/communication requirement. (Applicable to students from Cohort 2020/21 and before)

2. Students from USP, UTCP and RVRC Programme should read the equivalent writing / communication modules (UWC2101%, UTW1001%, ES1601, RVX100%) with their respective special programmes. 

3. Students on the Double Degree Programme should refer to the DDP programme structure for details on fulfilling their writing/communication requirements.

EG2401A Engineering Professionalism

Students are encouraged to read this module before or during the semester on internship. Failing which, you can still register for it in a later semester.

How to register for the module

Students reading the module before your internship

Please register for the module in ModReg Select Modules. 

Students who are scheduled to read it may register for the module in ModReg Select Modules (all rounds). 

For the remaining students, please note that priority is given to senior students to clear this module in time for graduation:

  • Cohort AY2018/19: Round 1 onwards
  • Cohort AY2019/20: Round 2 onwards
  • Cohort AY2020/21: Round 3

Students reading the module during your internship

You will be eligible to read an evening tutorial class. FoE Office of Undergraduate Programmes will email you with instructions to register for the module (outside ModReg).

Pre-requisites and Preclusions

1. Students must read and pass ES2531 before you are allowed to read EG2401A.

2. Students who read an alternative module in lieu of ES2531 (i.e. those from Computer Engineering, USP, UTCP, RVRC or some DDP students) will have their respective writing/communication module counted as an equivalent pre-requisite. 

3. Students who are from the Engineering Scholars Programme may read EG2101 in lieu of EG2401A.
