This guide assumes that you have the NUSNET IDs of your students (e.g. e0123456).

This guide applies to the following situations:

  1. you have manually keyed in marks to a spreadsheet, or
  2. you have marks downloaded from ExamSoft or applications other than Canvas.

If you want to manually import marks for Canvas assignments, please refer to this guide.


  1. Download this template. You will add the user list and marks to this template.
  2. Add the list of NUSNET IDs - e.g. e0123456 - under the SIS User ID column (C).
  3. Add the marks in Column G that need to be added for a specific new assignment (or) an ExamSoft assignment
    (Note: the list of names can be in any order, and need not contain the entire list of names; for those not added the marks will be blank when imported)
  4. Go to Canvas > Grades  > Actions > Import > Choose the File, and click “upload data”
  5. Then select the assignment  (if the assignment is not created in Canvas already, then choose “New assignment”); and add the total points possible, and click “Continue”
  6. The list of names with marks will be displayed. You will see two columns “From” and  “To”
  7. Finally click “Save Changes” to accept.
