Annotation: I don't have a document camera, and I prefer to write with a pen.

You can use annotation tools when sharing the screen or the whiteboard.

If you prefer to use a pen to write, and don't have access to a tablet laptop, consider the following options:

Using an iPhone/iPad

If you have an iPad with iPencil, this is one option you may consider.
You can join the Zoom session with just the iPad. You can also join the Zoom session on a laptop/computer. And Share Screen with Screen Mirroring or via Cable.
Do note for Screen Mirroring, both the laptop/computer and iPad should be connected to the same WiFi point.
Note: Screen Mirroring will not work in NUS WiFi environment, due to security concerns.

Pen Tablets

A pen tablet device for annotation. Connects via USB. Suitable for simple sketches.

Available on Wacom.

Pen Displays

Some will find that the pen tablet is not suitable as they need to be precise on the annotations.

A Pen Display will be a better option to achieve the accuracy required. Available on Wacom.

USB Webcam on a tripod

If you have a USB webcam, you can put it on a tripod with flexible arms.

Position the space and angle properly so that your hand doesn't cover the annotations.

Will be easier if the webcam can be placed in front of the area and the webcam image is vertically flipped.

Joining the Zoom session with smartphone as another participant

You can also use your smartphone to join the Zoom session as a second device, mount it on a tripod.

If you use this option, make sure you only join audio on either your computer or your phone and not both to avoid echos or feedback.

You will also need to Spotlight this smartphone participant, so it will be seen together with the Active Speaker for the rest of the participants.

A mirror clip on the laptop webcam

This works by using a mirror clip on for your laptop webcam. With the mirror it will need to flip the webcam image horizontally. Note that the mirror function in Zoom client will only flip the image for yourself; others will not see the effect.

Two such devices available in the market:

  1. The Kiap Kiap!

This is a product from our friends at SUTD. It doesn't come with any software to flip the webcam image. You will need to install an application called Snap Camera and use the Flip Image filter.
    Available on The Kiap Family.

  2. IPEVO Mirror Cam

Comes in a pack of 6 mirror clip and whiteboard. Download the IPEVO Visualizer Software to help with the image flip. The reviews on this software has been mix though.
    Available on Amazon.
