Import Quizzes from QTI packages
You can import quizzes into Canvas from tools that generate QTI files. Programs that cannot produce QTI files are not supported for Canvas quiz imports.
QTI files may be created by several learning management systems and software applications, including:
Quizzes built in Respondus 4.0 for Windows can be exported as QTI packages. For instructions.
Quizzes from Blackboard systems, including WebCT and Angel, can be exported as QTI packages.
Quizzes from Moodle can be exported as QTI packages when using Moodle 2.0 or earlier. Moodle 2.1 and later versions no longer support QTI package exports.
Notes:
Canvas supports QTI versions 1.2 and 2.1.
Quiz exports do not include questions from quizzes that pull random questions from question banks.
For New Quizzes, create the quiz shell first, then use the internal “Import” button. The course-level “Import Course Content” tool is mainly used for Classic Quizzes.
Open Settings
In Course Navigation, click Settings.
Import Course Content
On your right-hand side bar, click Import Course Content.
Select Content Type
Choose File
Open File
Find and click the ZIP file you want to import.
Click Open.
View Import Options
You can manage options for your import before it is created.
If New Quizzes is enabled in your course, you canconvert quizzes in the import package to the New Quizzes format.
You can also overwrite assessment content with matching IDs.
Import Existing Quizzes as New Quizzes
You can import existing quizzes as New Quizzes by selecting Convert content to New Quizzes, if your institution allows it.
When migration is enabled, Classic Quiz question groups and linked question banks move to New Quizzes; otherwise, add question bank questions manually before migrating.
Notes:
Convert content to New Quizzes appears only when New Quizzes and migration on import are enabled.
You cannot choose a default question bank when importing assessment content as New Quizzes.
Surveys migrate as standard quizzes; multiple dropdown questions become matching questions; Text No Question items become Stimulus questions.
Manually created question groups become item banks, and converted Question Banks appear under This Course on the Item Banks page.
If a quiz is migrated more than once, Canvas uses smart merging to help retain question bank content.
Practice quizzes migrate as zero-point quizzes hidden from the Gradebook and Grades page by default.
Overwrite Assessment Content
Select the Overwrite assessment content with matching IDs checkbox to replace existing assessment content that uses the same IDs.
Some systems reuse IDs in each export, so separate question banks may share the same IDs. Canvas normally keeps them separate to protect existing assessment data. Enabling this option turns off that safeguard and lets imported assessment data replace existing content with matching IDs.
Select Question Bank
From the Default Question bank drop-down menu, choose the question bank you want to use.
Create Question Bank
If you do not have a question bank you want to use, you can create a new question bank. In the drop-down menu, select the Create new question bank option.
Import Course
Click Import.
A progress indicator displays the upload status by percentage.
View Current Jobs
The Current Jobs section shows your import status. While the import is in progress, a progress bhe time remaining to complete the import.
Additional status messages may appear throughout the import process.
After the course import is complete, open the Quizzes page from Course Navigation to review your quizzes.
Note: If you imported assessments into New Quizzes, you can access them from the Assignments page.
