Moderate the Quiz
After publishing a quiz, use Moderate This Quiz to review student progress, attempts, and individual quiz settings.
You can grant extra attempts, add time for timed quizzes, or unlock attempts.
Notes:
Updates may take a few minutes to appear; refresh the page for current data.
Setting changes apply after a student completes their current attempt.
Open Quizzes
In Course Navigation, click Quizzes.
Open your Quiz
Click open your selected quiz
Moderate the quiz
Click Moderate this quiz in the sidebar
View Search Filter
To view the quiz attempts of a specific student, use the Search People field.
View Moderate Quiz Columns
The Moderate Quiz page includes the following columns:
Student: displays the student's name
Attempts: displays the student's quiz attempts
Time: completed attempts show the time it took for the student to complete the quiz; running time shows the remaining time the student has to complete the quiz
Attempts Left: Number of remaining attempts, if any
Score: displays the student's current quiz score
To refresh the page and make sure all column statistics are current, click Refresh
View Current Attempt Time
When a student is actively taking a quiz, the Time column on the Moderate Quiz page shows the quiz timer. Once the time limit ends, the submission appears as Time Up!
For non-timed quizzes, the timer counts down to the quiz Until date. If no Until date is set, it uses the course end date and displays the largest remaining unit, from months down to seconds.
Note: In non-timed quizzes, students see their elapsed time counting up.
View Timed Quiz Current Attempt Time
If you view the Moderate Quiz page while a student is currently taking a timed quiz, the Time column shows the running time remaining in the quiz. When time has expired, the Time column displays the submission as Time Up!
The quiz also displays a clock icon that you can use to extend time on the current attempt.
Note: When students are taking a timed quiz, their timer will show the elapsed time counting down.1.
View Outstanding Submissions
If the page displays a warning message, time has expired on one or more student submissions, but the submissions are outstanding and need to be manually submitted.
Moderate Quiz
You can moderate a quiz for a single student at any time by selecting the Edit icon. This lets you add extra attempts, manually unlock attempts, and, depending on the quiz settings, extend time for timed quizzes or allow another view of quiz results.
You can also update several students at the same time by applying one set of settings to everyone selected.
