Click Create Assignment Folder.

You will see a new sub-folder. This is the assignment folder. Now, continue following the instructions below to create the assignment in Canvas.

Additional/optional notes

If your assignment folder name is too long, you can rename the assignment folder so that it is easier for you and your students to find.

A useful short folder name should include the course code, the word video and highlight that videos should be uploaded here e.g. ABC1234 video upload. You can also add the assignment number if there are more than one video assignments.

Each Panopto folder (including the root folder) allows only one active assignment folder, (created as a sub-folder).

If you intend to have more than one video assignment for your course, you can:

  1. create a new assignment folder only after you have closed the previous assignment folder, or

  2. add a new folder in Panopto for each assignment. If you have two video assignments, you will have two video assignment folders.

    1. Enter one of the folders, then click the cog icon and create an assignment folder.

    2. Repeat the above in each of the top level folders you created for video assignments.

2. Create an assignment for video submission in Canvas

In your course, (1) click Assignments on the left-hand course navigation, then (2) click + Assignments.

Follow the steps for creating an online assignment.

In the assignment details text box, add:

  1. details about the assignment,

  2. the name of the assignment folder in Panopto and

  3. instructions on how student should upload the video to Videos/Panopto and submit the video to the assignment

For the submission type, choose:

  1. Online from the drop-down list, then

  2. check Text Entry*.

Once you have completed setting up the assignment, you can click Save or Save & Publish (if the assignment is ready to be published).

*Text Entry submission type is so that students can embed the video in the text field.

Students' uploaded videos can be viewed/marked using SpeedGrader. Alternatively, you can also view the videos in the assignment folder in Panopto.
