Restricting access to videos by date range in a Folder

In Videos/Panopto, if for some reason, you wish to set a release date for videos or restrict videos for a specific time frame or expiry date, you can do so in the Folder created.

If you wish to restrict the all the videos residing in a folder, you can select the folder in your Canvas Videos/Panopto e.g. “Videos to release via Date“ as shown below

  • Click on the folder settings as shown below

  • Go to the Settings section of the folder as shown below.
    a) Scroll to the “Availability” section in Settings
    b) Under “Sessions become available” select “starting on” and set the date you want the videos in the folder to be available
    e.g. 11 Aug 2025 12pm as shown below.
    Note: This will mean all videos in “Videos to release via Date“ folder will be available/viewable to students on the date set.
    c) Under “Sessions remain available“ select “Until“ and set the date you want the videos in the folder to be available
    e.g. 31 Aug 2025 6pm as shown below.
    Note: This will mean all videos in “Videos to release via Date“ folder will not be available/viewable to students on the date set.

    Important Note: Videos/Panopto is an external tool in Canvas and it’s hosted by Cloud Servers, do allow 5 minutes difference from the time you set before viewers/students can view due to the sync issue for Cloud Servers, if you like students to be able to access at 12pm sharp it’s recommended you set 11:55am.

  • Once done, you can see the videos listed in your folder as shown below.
    E.g. “Will be available to viewers on 11 Aug 2025 12pm” for all the videos in the folder.
