Q1: What is the default mode of teaching and learning for the CDE common curriculum?

A: In line with the government’s move towards an endemic state for COVID-19 and with our high vaccination rates, we will be having maximal face-to-face classes for Semester 2 of AY2021/2022, where prevailing safe management measures permit. In-person attendance is expected for all face-to-face classes, including examinations, which will be shifting back to face-to-face as the default.

For the AY2021/2022 Cohort freshmen, please refer to the modes of teaching and learning for the specific modules below:

Module CodeMode of teaching and learning
Engineering Principles & Practices II (various module codes)Please refer to NUSMods. If a classroom venue is listed, the class will be taught face-to-face.
MA15xx and CE2407B (various modules under the Modelling & Simulation pillar)Both lectures and tutorials are 100% e-learning.
EG1311 Design and Make

Lectures are 100% e-learning.

EG1311 lab sessions are face-to-face and lab work is heavily group-based. Students who are overseas should aim to arrive in Singapore in time for the lab sessions. If you are required to serve a Stay Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival or if your entry is delayed, you can attend the first lab session (beginning in Week 2 or 3) remotely. If your SHN extends beyond Week 3 or if you are unable to come to Singapore, please drop this module in ModReg and defer it to another semester.

CS1010E Programming Methodology

Both lectures and tutorials are 100% e-learning

DTK1234 Design Thinking

Lectures are 100% e-learning. There is no fixed timing for the lecture; online video lectures will be pre-recorded for students to watch at your own time and at your own pace.

Tutorials are face-to-face. For queries, please write to dtk@nus.edu.sg

PF1101 Fundamentals of Project Management

Both lectures and tutorials are 100% e-learning

For queries, please refer to the FAQ or write to shurong@nus.edu.sg

GEA1000 Quantitative Reasoning with Data

Lectures are 100% e-learning. There is no fixed timing for the lecture; online video lectures will be pre-recorded for students to watch at your own time and at your own pace.

Tutorials are face-to-face. For queries, please write to qradmin@nus.edu.sg

Q2: If I have a need to remain overseas, can I appeal to study remotely?

A long-distance learning option is no longer maintained for students who are overseas. Please make immediate arrangements to travel to Singapore. If you continue to remain overseas, you would be deemed to have done so for personal reasons, which would require an application for Leave of Absence. Applications should be made by the end of the second instructional week, failing which you may be liable for fees.

Q3: If my entry to Singapore is delayed or need to serve my Stay Home Notice, can I appeal to attend some classes remotely?

For EG1311, you can attend the first lab session (beginning in Week 2 or 3) remotely, if your entry is delayed or if you need to serve SHN. In-person attendance is expected for the remaining labs.

For the remaining F2F modules, in-person attendance is expected. Please inform your respective module lecturers or tutors about your situation, to see if alternative arrangements can be worked out.

Q4: If all my classes are taught online, can I remain overseas?

While lectures and tutorials may be online, it is possible that assessments could be conducted face-to-face. The mode of assessment will be decided later in the semester, subject to prevailing safe management measures. If the eventual mode of the final exam is face-to-face, you will be expected to attend the exam in person, and no online option will be made available.

Q5: I am taking bridging modules or other NUS modules. How do I tell whether they are online or face-to-face?

A: You can check NUSMods to see if the class venue is listed as a classroom/lecture theatre or "E-Learn".
