You can download the course activity report from New Analytics, then filter the content type column to show only discussions.
From there, sort by the name or SIS ID (NUSNET ID). The total for each student's participation should be added to give the number of posts.
Note: this does not count the first post (the thread starter) - for whatever reason, Canvas does not consider this as participation.
