You can download the course activity report from New Analytics, then filter the content type column to show only discussions.
From there, sort by the name or SIS ID (NUS-ID). The total for each student's participation should be added to give the number of posts.
Note: this does not count the first post (the thread starter) - for whatever reason, Canvas does not consider this as participation.
