- Course Description. What does it mean to be a Chinese Singaporean in the context of the rise of China and intense global competition? This course invites students to explore the construction of Chineseness in Singapore through a close collaboration with the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) and its affiliated clan associations to understand the dynamics underpinning the diverse Chinese communities in Singapore, which is crucial to the formation of a distinctive Chinese culture and identity in Singapore.
