CIT has embarked on a campus-wide project to support online continuous assessments, small and high-stakes examinations using a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) model in a proctored environment. This project in short is called the digital assessments initiative. The main aim is to enable NUS faculty to DIY (do-it-yourself) proctored digital assessments in any allocation with sufficient electrical points. In our scenario, digital assessments are run off the students' own notebooks in an open or closed-book secure environment. The student’s familiarity with their own devices allows them to concentrate on the assessment rather than the mode of assessment. NUS faculty also receive detailed student performance analytics on the assessments.

Besides efficiency and scalability, digital assessments allow NUS faculty to:

  1. create authentic assessments as questions can highlight real-world situations by incorporating high-resolution images and graphics, audio or video;
  2. promote higher order thinking and analysis;
  3. provide improved analysis and analytics of questions and assessments;
  4. offer better accountability while improving fairness in grading and reporting.
