Proctoring with ExamID and ExamMonitor

  1. What's ExamID?

    ExamID (https://examsoft.com/solutions/id-verification) digitally verify your identity via biometric facial recognition. Your baseline photo is taken the first time you take an exam with ExamID enabled. For your subsequent ExamID enabled exams, you will be prompted to take a new photo at the beginning of the exam. The new photo will be compared with your baseline photo. If match, then you proceed with your exam.

  2. What's ExamMonitor?

    ExamMonitor (https://examsoft.com/solutions/exam-monitor) captures a continuous audio and video recording throughout the entire exam using both webcam and screen capture. Once the exam is completed, the exam footage is uploaded to ExamSoft. An A.I. system analyzes the audio and video recording and identifies any abnormalities in student behavior based on movement, gaze, and background noise. Then an expert invigilator identifies behavioral anomalies, providing a verified, time-stamped incident report for examiner review.

  3. Prepare your test-taking device.

    Make sure your device meets the minimum system requirements for ExamID/ExamMonitor.

    1. Examplify version 2.8 or greater
    2. Hard drive: 4GB or higher available space
    3. RAM: 8GB or higher recommended; 4GB required
    4. Webcam: Integrated camera or external USB camera supported by your operating system. Virtual cameras are not supported.
    5. Microphone (no headphones, no virtual mics)
    6. Internet: 2.5 Mbps upload speed

  4. Take a practice exam.

    1. Disconnect any external headphones/microphones/earbuds/headsets.
    2. Go through our ExamID/ExamMonitor briefing slides (Examplify Briefing Slides) and take a practice exam.
      1. How do I start and take a proctored exam?
      2. Ensure that your device’s camera and microphone are in good working condition.
      3. Take a photo using Examplify. The first photo will be used as the baseline photo for ID verification.



      4. Position your device in such a way that your whole face and shoulder are captured by the camera throughout the exam.



      5. Refer to the troubleshooting guides or write to citbox25@nus.edu.sg if you run into any technical issues.

  5. On the exam day.

    1. Find a good place to take your exam.

      1. Be in a well-lit space as the camera needs good light to work well.
      2. Reserve a quiet place where you will be alone for the entire assessment.
      3. Ensure no one else is in the room or will be within the camera’s view.
    2. Before the exam.
      1. Remove any external headphones/microphones/earbuds/headsets.
      2. Position your device in such a way that your whole face and shoulder are captured by the camera throughout the exam (refer to 2.b.iii).
    3. Do start the exam on time.
    4. During the exam.
      1. Do not leave the view of the camera, unless discretion has been granted by the assessment team, e.g. bathroom breaks.
      2. Do not move in an unusual or excessive way.

      3. Do not look away from the screen, unless physical resources are permitted.

        ExamMonitor tracks eye movement and students who gaze off-screen will be detected and flagged by ExamMonitor. As such, you are advised not to look away from the screen during the exam to prevent “false positives” if no physical resources is permitted.

      4. Do not photograph, print, or take a screenshot of any part of the exam via any medium.
      5. Do not use any unauthorized materials or devices.
      6. Do not use multiple monitors, keyboards or mice.
      7. Do not wear hats or headphones/earbuds/headsets.
      8. Do not eat or drink.
      9. Do not have other people in the room.
      10. Do not speak or have any background noise.
      11. Do not communicate with anyone, unless there is a need to contact the assessment team or technical support.

  6. Protect your personal data.
