How to Combine Canvas Courses?

CDMS allows course instructors and designated CDMS dept admins to perform unofficial Canvas course combination as a self-service (i.e., not already marked as cross-listed in CMS).

Where the course has multiple instructors, please communicate internally e.g., who will perform the combination, which course will be the ‘parent’. Combined course will be instantaneously reflected in Canvas (no further confirmation needed).

 

Step 1: Proceed to CDMS URL and login with your NUS ID credentials: https://inetapps.nus.edu.sg/cdms/

Step 2: Click ‘Course Site Combination’.

Step 3: Click ‘Add’ button.

For course instructors, you need to be enrolled in the course as ‘Teacher’ role (via CMIS) to designate that particular course as the parent. This restriction is not applicable for the CDMS dept admins.

Step 4: Enter the course code(s) for parent and the corresponding child course(s). Drag and drop the courses for the listing sequence, if needed.

You may use any combination, as long as the targeted courses are within the same Academic Year e.g., 2410 + 2420, 2430 + 2440.

CDMS do not allow combining courses from Terms belonging to different Academic Year e.g., 2410 + 2510, 2400 + 2500.

Only the course contents from the designated 'parent' course will be used/ retained when courses are combined.

Step 5: Click ‘Save’ once done. Immediately check back on Canvas and ensure the course combination is successful. Sample screenshot, combined courses - parent and child courses:

You may also use the Course Combination tool to un-combine and/ or perform a re-combine, accordingly.
