Difference between Teams and Chat

Look for your provisioned team (or create a class team) for a group of students with structured communication and file sharing (with folder management). The Class Notebook will be automatically integrated for individual students to take notes on your class materials. 

Use the Chat (or create a group chat) for private messaging and calls with less structured/formal communication, and file sharing (but no folder management).
